Well Past Time

A recent article in the Guilford Courier has shown that the Town is addressing and fixing some of the intersections to increase their safety (Street Reconfigurations on the Way to Improve Safety on Guilford Roads", April 6). The decision includes changing the three-way stop at the four-way intersection of Little Meadow Road and Stepstone Hill Road.

The intersection at the three-way stop at the four-way intersection of Clapboard Hill Road and Tanner Marsh Road is much more dangerous, in my opinion, especially fueled by the high speed at which drivers are proceeding west coming from the Podunk area – and worse, this direction does not have a stop sign.

Upon walking across the intersection several years ago with three young children and one falling, it was clear it was dangerous and needed to be changed.

About 25 years ago, my spouse wrote to the Board of Police Commissioners to ask for a four-way stop at this intersection, which resulted in a two-way stop becoming a three-way, which made it worse rather than better.

We are not the only people in the area that have asked that this be addressed. It is well past time for this intersection to be changed to a four-way stop.

There is a meeting at the Guilford Police Headquarters Community Room on Wednesday, May 17, at 5 p.m. to speak your opinion.
