Necessary to Quantify the Impact

Bravo to 10,000 Hawks and the Greater New Haven Green Fund for collecting data on Tweed Airport’s impact on the surrounding communities. The Environmental Assessment (EA) that Tweed commissioned is inadequate for gauging the impact of jet traffic. The noise section contains no data, just computer modeling, and the air pollution was assessed at a site three miles from the airport. The EA also asserts that airport expansion will lead to cleaner air.

An Environmental Impact Study is necessary to quantify the impact that the residents of East Haven and Branford are already experiencing.

The air quality and noise data from the 10,000 Hawks study will give a rational basis for expanding the airport or taking meaningful steps to mitigate Tweed’s degradation of the quality of life and the health of surrounding communities.
