A Well-Kept and Challenging Hiking Trail

I recently hiked Chester Land Trust’s Constance Baker Motley Preserve on Cedar Lake Road in Chester. Although it was only a half mile, it was given a moderate to difficult rating to hike by the Trust itself. I was very quickly surprised by its elevation, bright pink, well-marked, and well-kept trail. Trees were identified on pressure-treated boards. There was a bench placed in two locations along the trail – one of those benches at the very top. The decline was so steep and narrow that stepping stones were created and painted for people’s safety. I had a pretty good idea when I began hiking this trail that Chester Land Trust President Bill Myers was instrumental in its creation. Sure enough, when I got to the end of the trail, there was a large plaque thanking him for all his hard work. I know Bill is a retired Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) officer, and I also know what a perfectionist he is. I want to personally thank Bill and the Chester Land Trust for putting the Town of Chester “on the map” for having such a well-kept and challenging hiking trail that we all can enjoy and, at the same time, appreciate nature and all the outdoors has to offer.
