Feeling Blessed

On the morning of Jan. 2, in the midst of retrieving our empty curbside trash container, I became abruptly aware of an immense sound - a phalanx of geese above me, perhaps 100 strong, wave after wave - as if moving us all beyond the memories of grief and joy - honking their way into the new year. I found myself smiling and feeling blessed, taking heart from their strong intention.
