A Passionate Advocate

I write to encourage your readers to support our State Senator Christine Cohen for re-election to her seat representing District 12.

Christine is a passionate advocate for the protection of the environment. As chair of the Senate Environment Committee, Christine has written and championed new laws and regulations, including legislation that reduces litter from bottles and glass, banned single use plastic bags, expanded efforts to eliminate invasive aquatic species, and banned harmful PFAS “forever chemicals” from firefighting foam and food packaging.

As a state senator who represents several shoreline communities, Christine is keenly aware of the significant challenges posed by storm surges and sea level rise. She wprked to create coastal resiliency funding mechanisms to mitigate the effects of these changes and secured funding for coastal resiliency projects in the district, including $770,000 to help replace the seawall at Garvan Point in neighboring Madison.

She also approved the Long Island Sound “Blue Plan,” which aims to support both aquatic natural resources and related businesses, and she supported the Connecticut Clean Air Act of 2022, which accelerates state use of electric vehicles and expands EV charging infrastructure.

As a member of Killingworth’s Conservation Commission, I feel confident knowing that I am represented in Hartford by someone who deeply cares about the environment and finds creative ways to protect our precious natural resources. She was an outspoken advocate for the preservation of the 250-acre Deer Lake property in Killingworth, working closely with town and state leaders and a nonprofit organization to help protect it for generations to come.

We are fortunate to have such a diligent, knowledgeable, and hard-working senator represent us in District 12. I hope your readers will join me in supporting Christine Cohen at the ballot box on November 8!
