A Fierce Advocate
I would like to introduce Martha Marx who is running for State Senate District 20. This district includes the eastern half of Old Saybrook and extends to New London. I have known Martha for several years as a fierce advocate for the well-being of others.
Martha grew up in Waterford and raised her family of four children in New London.
Martha has spent her life’s career caring for her community. She has worked as a registered nurse for over 37 years. She cared for people through the COVID-19 pandemic and will continue to work as a visiting nurse while serving as state senator. One of her goals is to help make healthcare more accessible and affordable. She will also protect a woman’s freedom to make her own decisions.
In her roles as a community servant leader, Martha is a two-term city councilor in New London and on the council’s Public Welfare Committee. She is chair of the New London Democratic Town Committee. She is president of her union, AFT Local 5119 VNA SC Registered Nurses and Home Health Aides.
Martha supports fully funding our police departments and investing in mental health services to keep our communities safe. She is endorsed by the Uniformed Professional Firefighters Association of Connecticut.
Martha represents working class people and building a more equitable and stronger economy. She supports raising taxes on the very wealthy, programs that will enable lower income people to buy homes, policies that support equal pay for equal work, and improvements to our health care system.
Martha’s multiple endorsements include Working Families, CWA, UAW, AFL-CIO, AFSCME, Connecticut State Building Trades, and Connecticut Employees Union Independent.
If you are in the 20th District, please join me in voting for a trusted and well-respected servant leader, Martha Marx.
