Send Her Back

According to Everytown for Gun Safety, Connecticut is the fifth safest state in the country when it comes to gun violence. This ranking isn’t due to luck — it is the result of common sense safety measures enacted by our state legislature. Senator Christine Cohen has long been an advocate for gun reform, and this November I will be casting my ballot to send her back to Hartford to continue to keep us safe.

After the tragic loss of their son Ethan, Christine worked with local family the Songs to pass Ethan’s Law, requiring safe storage of firearms in unattended vehicles as well as in homes. Ethan’s Law has now even made its way to Washington D.C. Christine voted to ban ghost guns, untraceable guns without serial numbers. She voted to close loopholes in “Red Flag” laws, allowing police to remove firearms from an individual who poses a risk to themself or others and increased funding for gun violence and intervention programs to continue to combat street-level gun violence.

All of this comes on top of Connecticut’s already strong gun laws like banning bump stocks, high-capacity magazines, as well as semi-automatic weapons like AR-15s, and requiring universal background checks of all gun sales, including sales by private citizens or those done online.

I know that I want a leader in Hartford who is looking to build upon these laws, keeping our community safe by ensuring guns stay out of the wrong hands. That’s why I will be voting to send Christine back to the Capitol, and I hope you will too.
