Doing Research

When doing research about Moira Rader, the Democratic candidate for the Connecticut 98th State Representative Seat, I discovered she has an extensive public record resulting from her being a member of the Guilford Board of Education (BOE) since 2017. I encourage any Guilford registered voter who is considering voting for Moira, to review her public statements.

For instance, the Guilford Education Association (GEA) asked every Guilford BOE candidate to fill out their questionnaire prior to the November 2021 election. Moira Rader answered “yes” to following questions: "Will you pledge to include the local teachers union in discussions surrounding all matters related to your local school district, it's schools and its funding? [and] Will you oppose all proposals that would censor teachers from teaching about inclusion, diversity and equity?" Do we really want a State Representative who has pledged to include the teachers union in all BOE discussions including school funding discussions? Is this in the best interest of our children, and our town? Is this not unethical? Additionally, do we want a State Representative who pledges to always support the teaching diversity, equity, and inclusion; an ideology which preaches systemic racism, institutional racism, white supremacy, and rejects a colorblind approach to education in favor of a race conscious approach to education?

Also, in a 2021 self-submitted candidate profile for Zip06.com, Moira said, "The possible demise of our award-winning school system is a real and present threat if ill-intentioned extremists succeed in their efforts to be elected to the BOE ... It feels more critical than ever that ... [we leave] no opportunity for extremist tactics to dismantle or disrupt our amazing programs." Do we really want a State Representative who advocates canceling parental rights and who labels parents concerned enough about their children's education to run for the BOE "extremists"?
