Understands the Importance

I am writing to show my support for Colin Heffernan for our Representative for the 23rd District, which includes Old Saybrook, Westbrook, Lyme, and Old Lyme.

I work with Colin in his role as the chairman of Old Saybrook’s Inland Wetland and Watercourse Commission and the Aquifer Protection Agency. Colin is a general practice attorney in town, a long-time resident of Old Saybrook, and the father of young children. He is vested in our community and understands the importance of protecting the environment now and for future generations.

We urgently need legislators to take strong action to avoid the impacts of climate change. We are especially vulnerable as a significant number of homes in the 23rd district are within six feet of sea-level. We are subject to extreme flooding, storm surge, and coastal erosion.

The time to address climate change was yesterday, yet the incumbent Devin Carney has consistently voted against bills to mitigate climate change — or he did not vote at all.

The Connecticut League of Conservation Voters recently released their 2022 Environmental Scorecard which shows how our state lawmakers voted on 20 critical environmental bills during the most recent legislative session. Devin voted against SB 4 Clean Air Act and SB 214 Electric Vehicles. As a result, Devin received a failing 56 percent score on the Environmental Scorecard. Gratefully the Clean Air Act, Climate Change Mitigation and bills protecting state land, trees, and water were among the 13 bills that passed.

The Connecticut Shoreline is our home and deserves our protection. Please join me in voting for Colin Heffernan for State Representative. Colin will show up in Hartford to represent us and vote in our best interests.
