Fighting for My Autonomy

In our rapidly-changing society, there are few moments when the world stands still. Technology, globalization, and the rise of connectivity have created a fast-paced and, at times, daunting environment. However, the day Roe v. Wade was overturned, the country fell eerily silent.

Now more than ever, the importance of local leadership weighs heavily on us. As we near the 2022 elections, our collective decisions on who should lead us — and why — are of the greatest significance. Though Connecticut has tumultuous support for people’s autonomy and the right to choose, those freedoms remain under threat.

That’s why, when it comes to protecting and advocating for women’s rights, State Senator Christine Cohen is the ideal candidate. As a member of the Reproductive Rights Caucus, Sen. Cohen’s tenacious work to expand abortion access is a cornerstone to the state’s success. Her stances include providing sanctuary and healthcare to out-of-state patients where treatments were otherwise unavailable. In doing so, her compassion and leadership are felt throughout the country. Equally commendable, she’s upheld rights to privacy, ensuring states cannot subpoena information concerning legal reproductive healthcare services.

The majority of Americans support access to reproductive healthcare. Meanwhile, an overwhelming majority wish to maintain their right to privacy. Not only does Senator Cohen represent the perspectives of her constituents, but she does so with passionate, earnest conviction.

The November elections are rapidly approaching. Despite the weight of the Supreme Court’s decision, I look toward this country’s future with a fervent heart, motivated by the knowledge that candidates like Sen. Cohen are fighting for my autonomy. There is no greater person to represent and lead our districts. To my fellow residents — join me in supporting Christine Cohen for the Connecticut State Senate.
