Attentive to My Concerns

My avocation is conservation advocacy. Consequently, I have often reached out to the senator representing the 12th District. I have found Senator Christine Cohen to be particularly reachable and attentive to my concerns and requests for information. As Senate Chair of the Environment Committee, she has been in the forefront of important legislative initiatives including the Clean Air Act and a ban on single-use plastic bags.

Sen. Cohen has also protected Connecticut’s Passport to the Parks program from efforts to diminish its effectiveness by allowing exemptions from the vehicle registration surcharge. This would significantly reduce funding to the parks. The program was created to provide a steady stream of revenue for parks operations. It has been successful and parks usage has increased.

During her legislative tenure, she also created and currently co-chairs the Coastal Caucus, a bipartisan group of lawmakers from coastal communities. Shoreline communities are facing sea level rise by as much as six feet by 2100, so their leaders are in a race against time to address climate change.

Our hard-working senator has also supported bills banning the production of untraceable ghost guns, raising the smoking and vaping age to 21, reducing business taxes, expanding workforce development training, instituting a paid family leave system and allowing the planting of hemp on Connecticut cropland.

Senator Cohen is a small business owner with her husband, Rob, the parent of three children in the Guilford Public Schools and a former operations chair of the Guilford Board of Education. She has done a great job as the senator from the 12th Senatorial District. Please join me in supporting her for re-election.
