A Champion for the Environment

On Aug. 30, State Senator Christine Cohen presented Bill Horne with a CT General Assembly Official Citation recognizing his 30 years of extraordinary volunteer leadership in conservation, preservation, and community engagement—always advocating citizen stewardship for our environment. In presenting the award, Sen. Cohen reminded the gathered crowd that Bill is “a champion for the environment…an incredible bridge builder, working for Branford and other communities [in our state]”

As Senate Chair of the Environment Committee, Christine is well aware that she stands on the shoulders of dedicated, outspoken, relentless environmental leaders like Bill. I believe she embodies these qualities in continuing the work for passage of protections and legislation that keep Connecticut a national leader in fighting climate change. She understands that improving our environment and strengthening our communities are mutually dependent and critical for a hopeful, viable future. There is nothing half-hearted about her fierce dedication to these twin concerns! With her leadership many significant actions have already been taken including:

Passing the Connecticut Clean Air Act of 2022 (accelerating state use of electric vehicles (EV), expanding availability of EV charging stations, promoting use of electric school buses allowing children and families to breathe more freely).

Improving the quality of Long Island Sound with the “Blue Plan” to support businesses and natural resources, expanding elimination of aquatic invasive species, updating recycling regulations, banning harmful PFA chemicals, plastic bag use, and fracking waste.

In gratitude for her accomplishments on behalf of Branford and our state, and with concern for continuing active leadership to combat climate change, I enthusiastically support an “environmental champion” for our era, Christine Cohen. I urge all Branford voters to join me on Tuesday, Nov. 8 in reelecting Christine as our State Senator.
