Going to Fight

As a Connecticut taxpayer, I pay particular attention to how the state legislature votes to spend my hard-earned dollars. In this most recent budget, there were some eye-catching items that seemed inappropriate, especially as we are faced with inflation and being squeezed daily by higher costs.

Some of the more absurd expenditures are $2 million to establish non-stop flights to Jamaica, $3 million for a golf course in Windsor, $1 million for a COVID-obesity study, $1.5 million to study alternate uses for Brainard Airport, and $300,000 for Valley Regional High School’s tennis courts. None of these are vital to the state, and they are clearly earmarks for specific legislators or special interests. Overall, the state budget exploded by over 6 percent, which is over a billion dollars. Most household budgets are not working in the same fashion and people are forced to make cuts.

Thankfully, our State Representative Devin Carney called out the majority party for this outlandish spending on non-essential items. He worked to try to remove these items. We need independent leaders, like Devin, who are going to fight when it comes to our tax dollars and not what a political party or special interest wants. He has always tried to root out waste and corruption and I am confident he is the best candidate for State Representative. I hope you will join me in supporting Devin’s re-election on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
