Support Our Community

In a May 12 article [“Guilford Economic Development Emerges from the Pandemic’], Guilford Economic Development Director Sheri Cote is quoted as stating, “We are all sad that Walmart is leaving us and there is definitely a need for a retailer like that.”

I question why our community wants a retailer who practices predatory pricing that threatens our local business owners and pays substandard wages and benefits. The policies of corporations such as Walmart base their business strategies on taxpayers picking up the bill for inadequate wages and health insurance.

I recommend our town’s government leaders seek out businesses that will support our community by paying living wages and health benefits and will partner with our local businesses as opposed to unfairly pricing them out of business.
