Recognize Our Teachers

I am a sophomore at Guilford High School. Throughout my first two years of high school, I have seen teachers go above and beyond to help students feel more comfortable and find success during these difficult years. Because of the work that teachers have done, I believe that students should consider nominating teachers for Guilford Fund for Education STAR Awards.

We see how teachers have had to overcome many obstacles for their students during coronavirus. We see just how stressful and challenging teaching is in general. We see the difficulties teachers have currently in the current climate. And we see how teachers have gracefully managed to go above and beyond for their students.

I’m sure every student has a teacher that has gone out of their way to make their days better. For me, last year my teacher, Mr. Brian White, and I would talk about current events happening in the world at the end of every history class. It was a small gesture but was something I looked forward to. That one thing made my day a little better and helped me clear my mind from all the craziness that was happening in our lives.

I’m sure we have all had a teacher that made our days better and made a difference in our lives. We are the ones who see their efforts firsthand. We should be the ones to recognize our teachers with a star award for going out of their way to help us amid the stress of their daily lives. Whether it’s a STAR Award or another gesture, I encourage students to step up during Teacher Appreciation to thank their teacher and make their day.
