Three Important Steps

As a 35-year resident of Madison who loves this town, I encourage your readers to vote “Yes” on all three initiatives that are on the Feb. 15 referendum.

The historic Academy School building, in the heart of Madison, could best serve our multi-generational residents as a mixed-use community center with office space for the Beach & Recreation Department along with necessary added space for Madison Youth & Family Services. They engage our students and their families in supporting wellness, mental health, as well as scaffolding folks with pressing needs.

The Madison School Renewal Plan will provide a new pre-K to grade 5 school along with necessary renovations to other buildings. This important step will reduce the number of schools and their maintenance costs from six to four. The education and the future of our children should be of prime importance to all of us.

The sale of Island Avenue School building should be sold to Our Lady of Mercy parents, who are pleased to continue their program in Madison.

In order to move our town forward to the future, we need to move forward with these three important steps. I encourage your readers to vote “Yes” for all three initiatives on the Feb. 15 ballot.
