Right Thing to Do

I love Madison. I have since I was six years old when I would visit my Uncle Jim Morris. He lived on Green Hill Road and owned The Hob Nob Restaurant. In the summer we would drive from our home in Hamden to go to the Surf Club and have dinner at The Hob Nob. Even at a young age I knew Madison would be my home some day.

In the 1960s and 1970s, Madison was known for two things, the best beaches and the best schools on the shoreline. When I was older and looking to move to Madison, my uncle assured me not to worry that homes in Madison are more expensive than the surrounding towns. Because of Madison’s beaches and schools, a home will appreciate more in good times and depreciate less in bad times. Not only was this great advice, it was absolutely true.

My uncle’s generation invested in new schools. As a result, Madison has had the highest property values on the shoreline for the past 30 years. Our generation needs to continue their legacy and invest in the schools again to insure that we continue to have the best schools and high property values on the shoreline. The best advice Uncle Jim gave me was “doing the right thing is good for business.” Investing in our schools is the right thing to do and will be good for all of Madison.
