Not a Simple Process

Every time I go up to Melissa Jones School to vote, I realize that exercising this right is not a simple process for everyone. Walking down from the parking area to the lowest level of the school (and back) can be a daunting effort for voters with mobility issues, including many seniors. There are ways around this problem, such as absentee voting, but they require the voter to do some planning ahead of time. Some will just not bother to vote.

Many people look forward to casting a ballot in person, and it should not be made difficult. The school has a cafeteria at the same level as the parking, and using it would greatly simplify voter access. If school is in session and lunch is needed, the students could have a simple lunch in their classrooms—it has been done before under other circumstances. The present arrangement effectively disenfranchises some voters.
