Blessed for the Opportunity

Congratulations go to all re-elected and newly elected members of Old Saybrook boards and commissions. Whether they are Democrat, Republican, or unaffiliated, I look forward to working closely with them on behalf of our citizens.

As I return to the office of first selectman of Old Saybrook for the next two years, I want to thank the voters of Old Saybrook for their continued vote of confidence. This is not a job I take lightly and I pledge to work every day for the betterment of our community. Those of us who are fortunate enough to be employed by the taxpayers of the Town of Old Saybrook must continue to earn the public trust every day.

Since 2011, when Scott Giegerich and I were first elected, we have always had a deep respect for the offices we (temporarily) occupy and we have advocated for positive changes in our community. We have no intention of resting on what we have accomplished as there is always more to do. Implementing best practices and seeking efficiencies wherever and whenever possible is important, but we must always make smart investments in quality-of-life improvements. This is a special town, one of the best places on planet earth, and we all know it. Every day, I wake up knowing I am fortunate to live here and feel blessed for the opportunity to lead our town. That means doing the right thing, day in and day out, to make Old Saybrook the best it can be.

As most residents know, I am always available to discuss their concerns and always willing to hear their thoughts on town government or their ideas on how we can make our town better. I thank them for the opportunity to serve Old Saybrook for another two years.

First Selectman Carl P. Fortuna, Jr.
