Smart, Reasonable, Passionate

Smart, reasonable, passionate—these are qualities I have observed and admired in Bruce Wilson, during our service together on the Board of Selectmen over the past two years. As a newcomer to town government, I’m appreciative of Bruce’s willingness to discuss the issues and to impart the history and knowledge he has acquired as a long-time public servant to the town of Madison.

Through his professional experience and years of service on various town boards, including the Board of Selectman and Board of Education, Bruce has an in-depth understanding of the town budget and town operations as well issues related to human resources. This type of experience and knowledge is essential for the position of first selectman.

Bruce values the programs, services, and resources that help to make our town and community the special place it is. He understands the investment that is needed to sustain these. Although sometimes unwelcome and unpopular among fellow board members, Bruce is not afraid to ask the tough questions. How are current resources and dollars being used? Are there steps that can be taken to recognize cost savings? How do we prioritize and evaluate various town initiatives? These are things that our residents want to know, particularly when being asked to vote on projects of major significance and cost to our town. These inquiries are essential to responsible and purposeful use of tax dollars.

Finally, Bruce supports transparency, not just among members of the same political party but across all town leadership and constituency groups. This is the only way to truly work collaboratively for the betterment of our town.

I encourage your readers to join me in voting for Bruce Wilson for first selectman on Nov. 2.

Selectman Erin Duques (R)
