Responsible and Sustainable Stewardship

My name is Karl Gelotte, and I am running for a seat on the Westbrook Board of Finance as part of the Team Hall/Campbell ticket. I would be grateful for your readers’ support on Nov. 2. My goal is to support and maintain the excellent quality of life we enjoy in Westbrook with responsible and sustainable financial stewardship of our tax dollars. I will take great care to spend our tax money wisely and efficiently on budget priorities, and within our means, avoiding unnecessary debt and increased taxes whenever possible.

I have lived in Westbrook with my wife Cathy and children Alex and Christine since 2005, and we love it here. I recently retired from Pfizer Global R&D after a 34-year career in the pharmaceutical industry as a product development scientist, manager, and organizational leader. I have many years of experience managing projects, budgets and spending. I have a B.S. in pharmacy and Ph.D. in pharmaceutical sciences (from UConn—go Huskies!). I have a passion for the outdoors and natural spaces including the shoreline and Long Island Sound. I am a member of the Westbrook Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Commission and the Westbrook Land Conservation Trust. I also volunteer as an immunizer in public vaccination clinics as a member of the Ledge Light Medical Reserve Unit.

I believe that with my background I would serve Westbrook well by listening carefully, thinking rationally, and acting in the best interests of Westbrook residents, with the understanding there will be complexity and multiple funding priorities. I hope your readers will support me for the Westbrook Board of Finance role.
