Does the Actual Work

Qualifications are very important in judging a candidate for elected office, but just as important is personal character. I am endorsing Katie Stein for election to the Madison Board of Finance because I think she has the experience to do the job and is simply one of the best people I know.

It’s easy to sign up as a volunteer or have your name on the letterhead for a board, but Katie does the actual work. She is all-in, all the time. When we are working at an event, Katie is the first one there for setup and the last one to leave after cleanup. The Board of Finance involves hard, time-consuming work. Katie will get it done. Sometimes the process of government seems impersonal and cold. In her work as a health care professional and as a member of the Board of Education throughout the pandemic, Katie has shown the empathy and concern for individuals that are needed in a time of increasingly tough decisions.

There are very few people in Madison who have more contact with its citizens than Katie Stein. She is omnipresent in our town and a great listener. Her phone is running red hot night and day. I believe that Katie’s finger on Madison’s pulse is a major benefit given the tough decisions that are coming up for the Board of Finance.

Katie is intimately familiar with the financial side of town government. As former chair of the Board of Education and current Finance Committee chair, she has dealt with $50 million budgets for years. Budgets, hearings, workshops, mill rates, bonds—that is a dance that Katie can dance. I encourage your readers to elect Katie Stein to the Madison Board of Finance on Nov. 2.
