A Natural Advocate

I am writing to wholeheartedly share my support of Cristy Cantu for the Branford Board of Education position in the upcoming election. Cristy is a natural advocate for children and families in our town.

I have witnessed this firsthand several times since meeting Cristy in 2013 as a member of the John B. Sliney PTA. I also had the unique opportunity to work closely with Cristy as part of the Branford Community House/Hammer Field Playground project in 2014. Cristy was the catalyst for change in the project, reaching out to the town initially to inquire about upgrades. The result of that outreach turned into the formation of our committee and a large, collaborative effort involving advocacy, planning, and fundraising. The playground project was completed in September 2014.

It is clear that when Cristy recognizes a need in the community, she does not hesitate to act. I believe that this is one reason Cristy stepped up to become a Board of Education member in Branford when a seat was vacated in 2020. In her role as Board of Education member over the past year and a half, I have observed that Cristy displays patience, empathy and good listening especially when hearing the concerns of parents in our community on issues both big and small. In her interactions with the board and administration, I have seen that she is never afraid to ask questions and presses to seek answers. Cristy is an intelligent, determined, well-spoken, and compassionate member of the Board of Education.

I have no doubt that if elected, she will continue to be that board member who listens to the community, asks tough questions, and is an agent of positive change.
