Talents, Skills, and Enthusiasm

I am proud to have the opportunity to write in support of Tom Burns, who is running as a candidate for the Westbrook Board of Finance. As Tom’s wife, I have had a front-row seat the past 28 years to witness his talents, skills, and enthusiasm for helping others. It is of no surprise to me, that at the start of his retirement, he would like to dedicate his time to his community.

Tom was born with a gift for numbers and finance. This expertise has afforded him admirable success with managing large budgets, writing grants, and becoming extremely versed in state and federal tax laws. In addition, those who know Tom will attest that he is a people person. As vice president of the New Haven Federation of Teachers, he was often called upon to mediate between opposing parties because of his ability to initiate collaboration. His leadership often resulted in the resolving of challenging issues or the accomplishment of difficult tasks. This natural ability will serve him well on the Board of Finance.

Tom looks forward to bringing fresh eyes and a new perspective to town politics. He is eager to creatively seek ways to lower taxes while attending to the many needs of the town. I can’t imagine anyone more suited for this role than Tom. A vote in support of Tom is certainly a vote for a thriving Westbrook.
