Ability to Maintain Balance

I am writing in support of Jean Fitzgerald and Happy Marino for election to our Board of Finance. I have worked with Jean on the Board of Finance the past two years and have witnessed firsthand her excellent leadership as chair of that board.

During that same time, I have also collaborated with members of the Board of Education during the budgeting process. Happy Marino has always impressed me with her ability to objectively balance the needs and desires of our schools within the context of the overall needs of our town. As Madison goes, so goes our schools. And as our schools go, so goes Madison. The two are intertwined and one cannot succeed without the other.

People often choose to live in Madison due to our high performing schools. People who choose to leave Madison often do so due to high property taxes. Our elected officials need to balance these complementary, but at times competing, interests for our town to maintain its desirability. Jean and Happy have demonstrated an ability to maintain that balance based on facts and sound reasoning, and our town and schools have benefited from their years of service.

I am certain that working together on the Board of Finance, they will continue to do so, and our town of Madison will continue to be better for it. I hope your readers join me in voting for Jean Fitzgerald and Happy Marino for Board of Finance on Nov. 2!
