A Professional’s Professional

This letter is written in support of Tom Burns, who is seeking a seat on the Westbrook Board of Finance. Tom is a professional’s professional. He recently retired after two decades with the New Haven school system, where he worked as a guidance counselor. In addition, Tom served as vice president of the 1,800-member New Haven Federation of Teachers where he wrote grant applications, managed major awards, negotiated contracts ,and served in other related capacities.

Holding a master’s degree, Tom is highly educated and provided proven successful leadership in college sports, so much so that he became a coach with the Australian Olympic Baseball program. More recently he served on Westbrook’s Recreation Commission. He fully dedicates himself to whatever he pursues.

On a more personal note, Tom has prepared my income tax filings for several years. He has skillfully found subtle provisions in the tax laws that obtained unexpected deductions for me. Tom is very meticulous and well prepared to navigate Westbrook’s financial challenges including needed upgrades to public safety and reinvention of our central business district. Tom is married to Diana, who served as a teacher at Daisy Ingraham School prior to becoming a principal. Their two daughters Callie and Casey attended Westbrook Public Schools and have been active members in the community.

I respectfully encourage your readers to honor Tom Burns with their votes.
