Smart, Dependable, and Outspoken

I want to make sure the taxpayers of Branford know just how hard the tax collector, Roberta Gill-Brooks, works. She goes into work somewhere between 6:30 and 7 a.m. every morning, even though Town Hall doesn’t open until 8:30 a.m. Many Saturdays and many Sundays you will see her little red car parked outside of Town Hall because she will go in to get some things done when it’s quiet. She is dedicated to her work, and holds exceptional customer service high on the priority list.

“Bobi”, as she is known as, greets all co-workers, taxpayers, and residents with a bright smile, and a brighter attitude. She is smart, dependable, outspoken, and has led Branford’s tax office through many challenges since she was first elected in 2017. Despite the loss of long-standing veteran office staff members to retirement (one only nine months into her first term, and the other, merely two weeks before COVID-19 hit), and extended periods of time when the tax office was short staffed, Ms. Gill-Brooks and her new hires dug in and got the job done—maintaining a more than 98 percent collection rate. If that could be met when office operations were challenging and the staff was relatively new, imagine what she will be able to do once the office staff is seasoned and strong.

I will be voting for her and encourage everyone else to, as well. She says “results matter and character counts.” Ms. Gill-Brooks brings both!
