It Was a Great Day

The inaugural Greater Branford Open Mini Golf on the Green was held on Sept. 18 to raise funds for Wreaths Across America—Branford Cemeteries. Funds raised at this event will be used to purchase wreaths for National Wreaths Across America Day on Saturday, Dec. 18.

Each December on National Wreaths Across America Day, the mission to remember, honor, and teach is carried out by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies at all seven cemeteries in Branford, Arlington National Cemetery, and more than 2,000 additional locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad. There are more than 2,500 veterans in the seven Branford Cemeteries.

Thanks go to all the sponsors, the Barringham family—Hal, Barb, Kelsey, Ben, and Emma; Branford Fire Department; Branford Historical Society; East River Energy; Feed Branford Kids; The Gallway Girls—Callista, Kris, Karen, and Liz; Susan Cosgrove; M.P. Rice Hose Co. #2; Shoreline Café & Catering; Sims Metal Management; and W.S. Clancy Funeral Home. Thanks also go to Boy Scout troops 453 and 604 who assisted the artisans and crafters with their setup and break down and to the course designers, Joe Copes, Brad Hotchkiss, Matt Hally, and Mike Giordano. Also, we offer special thanks for the support from The Sound and the town selectmen Jamie Cosgrove, Angie Higgins, and Ray Dunbar, who played the first round of golf.

It was a great day and look forward to next year’s event. Those interested in volunteering or supporting Wreaths Across America-Branford Cemeteries can email wreaths06405@gmail.com.
