A Unique Understanding
I am Lynn Hidek, asking for your readers’ votes for re-election to the Clinton Police Commission. Commission members oversee and support Clinton Police Department (CPD) progress toward exemplary, responsive community policing. Since the last election, I have advocated for Clinton’s citizens as our Police Department has become ever more focused on the needs of our community.
Consider: My active support allowed the department to establish the Rape Aggression Defense Program (self-defense for women), Clinton Community Assistance Team (volunteer assistance team that helps seniors), a financial literacy seminar (with a focus on recognizing Internet scams and online security), and the Police Youth Group (encouraging teens to connect through community service.)
As a commissioner, I have overseen the department’s focus on fiscal responsibility. New scheduling and restructured command staff have reduced overtime. When the state enacted unfunded mandates, not only did Police Chief Vincent DeMaio research the necessary equipment options, he and the captains purchased and implemented the requirements. CPD became one of the first to apply for the limited amount of reimbursement funds, potentially saving the town money. CPD’s outreach programs, including most of the cost of Sonny, our legendary K9, are funded through donations. The CPD is applying for CALEA accreditation, the gold standard for responsive responsible policing. I support this effort, knowing it will protect our citizens, our officers, and our integrity.
Living in Clinton since 1973 has given me the opportunity to develop relationships that give a unique understanding of our neighbors’ needs and concerns. I seek re-election to continue to share those insights and perspectives from members of the community. That understanding informs my decisions on the commission. Your readers’ votes keeps that in place for another four years.
