Insights, Experience, and Dedication

I write to support Mary Ella Luft for re-election to Westbook’s Board of Education (BOE). The work of serving our school district is demanding and complex, and continuity is important. As a key member of the BOE for the past six years, Mary Ella Luft has demonstrated the right combination of good sense, keen insights, hard work, and responsible stewardship.

I served on the BOE in Westbrook for 12 years and was fortunate to overlap with Mary Ella in the last two years of my tenure. Even when topics become controversial and pressurized, Mary Ella is a voice of reason, advocating for students and the community, while knowing that sometimes a decision has to wait until accurate and vital information is gathered. Mary Ella has been an involved parent, contributing time and energy to countless scout meetings, athletic events, fundraisers, PTOs, and all the other duties of an engaged community member and mom. Through it all, Mary Ella Luft has served our shoreline communities as a nurse, continuing to work long hours while meeting all her BOE obligations despite a pandemic and a recent period of demanding district leadership transition.

Westbrook needs her insights, experience, and proven dedication. I encourage your readers to vote for Mary Ella Luft for the Westbrook BOE on Nov. 2.
