Helps First Responders

I wanted to write this letter to extend my deepest appreciation for the generous donation made by the Community Foundation of Middlesex County. A donation in the amount of $2,500 was received and applied toward the new emergency access system that helps first responders access victims in the event of an emergency.

The system called KnoxBox Key Secure 6, is a rapid entry system that is a secure emergency access program developed for property owners and fire departments. When a fire breaks out, or there is any emergency, the Knox Box Rapid Entry System allows firefighters and paramedics immediate entry into buildings and property without forced entry damage or delay.

A KnoxBox secure vault is installed on the outside of the building. Inside the vault are access keys that can only be accessed by fire department personnel and the fire marshal. Initial response vehicles have a special device securely installed that constantly monitors department access keys and tracks who releases and uses the keys and the location. This provides the highest security for using the system by allowing real-time chain of command and accountability while accessing vaults.

Additional vaults will be purchased as loaners for residents who may have seasonal homes in town. This has proven helpful as we have responded to numerous false alarms at homes that were unoccupied where owners were out of the state. First responders were able to access the home through the use of the KnoxBox system, mitigate the situation, and secure the home without any damage to doors or windows. Loaners will also be available for those who may have temporary visitors who may need assistance in case of an emergency. As always, we greatly appreciate the support of the community.

Thank You,

Fire Marshal John Planas
