The Lack of Choice

As I read through the article about the progress of the Charter Review Commission [Aug. 5, “Charter Review Moving Forward in Madison”], I was disappointed to find that Madison voters will not be allowed to chose the form of government that will continue for the next 10 years. The Charter Review Commission of our neighbor, Clinton, presented two choices on the 2018 ballot, one to retain the baord of selectmen/town meeting form of government, and second to change to a town manager/town council form of government. The town manager/council was passed.

The 2015 Madison Charter Review Committee did the same as present committee, and the vote was nearly two to one against the proposed change. Hence the new committee. Hopefully, the lack of choice is not due the fact that a member of the Madison Charter Review Commission, Republican Noreen Kokoruda, is a candidate for the Board of Selectmen in the November election?
