Change the Status Quo

Women are a vital and integral part of society worldwide. But sadly, in some patriarchal countries, women are second class citizens who are denied an education and the right to vote, and prevented from participation in leadership roles.

Thankfully Old Saybrook is a mature community where women are valued and celebrated for their accomplishments. We have an equal opportunity to serve the community and to contribute to the common good, yet we are still under-represented in town office. It is time for this to change!

Boards and commissions make important decisions that affect the quality of life for Old Saybrook residents, businesses, and visitors. A diversified leadership body is stronger than a homogeneous group. Diversification offers different perspectives, enables new ideas, and promotes open discussion when solving problems.

In November, the voters of Old Saybrook must change the status quo by electing well-informed, enthusiastic, and committed female candidates. I encourage your readers to join me in voting for the entire Democratic team, women and men, to bring diversity of thought and equal representation to our boards and commissions. Together we can make our community stronger.
