Hand-Wringing and Ex

Unfortunately the Board of Selectmen (BOS) is postponing action on the proposed changes to the flood plain ordinance as put forward by the Coastal Resilience Committee (CRC).

It was the BOS that formed the CRC, asked for volunteers to commit time and energy to this task, and charged them with the responsibility to develop a plan. The committee members worked hard, covered all the bases, solicited public input, and completed their report. They wrestled with the “look-back” provision and made their best overall recommendation for the good of the town and compliance with state and FEMA guidelines. Now, the BOS is being bullied into inaction and second-guessing because of vocal opposition to that provision.

Well, this is where the need for actual leadership, and commitment to town governance, comes into play. Instead, we get hand-wringing and excuses to avoid making a decision. If the BOS is not going to support the findings and adopt the recommendations, why ask for them in the first place?
