Seeing Disparity

I would like to share my support for the district’s initiatives to support culturally responsive teaching. I have been disappointed to read letters to the editor indicating that this is somehow a fringe issue or irrelevant to our students.

As I think about raising my two boys in town, they have been keen observers of inequity from a very young age. They could force me to acknowledge when one or the other had been given an advantage—even in something as small as the sharing of a snack. Somehow we have become less adept at seeing disparity in our actions, choices, and policies—but it is very well documented in pay gaps, education, and home ownership.

I support a school environment where all students can thrive and encourage to Board of Education and superintendent to continue the difficult work of helping us make good students and citizens of our children.
