Successful Spring Pop-Ups

The Friends of the Guilford Free Library (FOGFL) would like to thank everyone who contributed to the success of our Spring Pop-Up book sales, including supporters who patronized the events and the library director and library staff. The pop-ups, which took place over four Saturdays in May and June after months of planning by FOGFL volunteers, brought in more than $12,000.

Proceeds from all our sales benefit the library and its programs, and we are delighted that our recent efforts have helped heighten the library’s digital presence during the pandemic: funding online access to lectures and programs for adults and teens; purchasing multiple Zoom accounts, digital books, and media; and buying the personal protective equipment that allowed the library to safely reopen. Money raised by our sales also went toward acquiring a self-checkout terminal and a printer that can print wirelessly from the parking lot, minimizing face-to-face contact between the staff and patrons.

We would also like to recognize the efforts of the library staff in meeting the challenges of the pandemic. Although the library building was closed for several weeks, the staff creatively solved logistical problems while following strict public health guidelines. Curbside pick-ups, scheduled indoor appointments, outdoor children’s programs, and tables on the patio with wi-fi access for people working remotely all allowed the library to continue serving the public. Staff members even shared their digital expertise with people needing help in online vaccination scheduling!

FOGFL is proud to support the Guilford Free Library as a vital part of our community. We encourage your readers to consider joining FOGFL or donate their gently used books, ephemera, prints, or maps for its next sale.
