Really Deserve our Thanks

I wish to express my admiration and appreciation for the way that First Selectwoman Cathy Iino and her excellent staff have navigated the challenges of COVID. Through it all, even when some were working from home, services were available and the Town Hall staff was responsive to the needs of all of us. These folks who have worked so hard to serve us in this challenging time really deserve our thanks.

Our town workers have worked hard this year and I understand why the Town Hall is not fully open to walk-in visitors. Those of us who are satisfied are less likely to post on Killingworth Facebook pages or write letters to the editor. In contrast, critics have been vociferous in calling our town workers lazy and calling for the Town Hall to be fully open. These opinions are hurtful to the workers and unjustified. The front of our Town Hall was build in 1830 and the rear is a modular addition meant to last for five years and in use for about 20 years. It is not a building conducive to social distancing.

All of your readers who have worked in positions of responsibility know they get more complaints than compliments. Let’s change that. I encourage your readers to send notes of thanks to the town workers (in care of the Town Hall)—it will be appreciated!
