With Smiles in their Eyes

The members of the Old Saybrook Garden Club extend our very grateful thanks to everyone for supporting our club’s annual Gardeners’ Market held on the Old Saybrook Town Green on May 7 and 8. We were very pleased and proud that our event was the first that was permitted on the green since the coronavirus lockdown in early 2020. We appreciate all the help and guidance we received from Old Saybrook Parks & Recreation, Public Works, Buildings, and Fire departments; the Fire Marshal; Police Chief Michael Spera; and our Police Department. Thank yous and kudos go out to our own member volunteers, especially the committee members who helped us plan and accomplish this event as we transition from pandemic to a new normal. An extra special thanks goes out to all our customers who generously supported us with smiles in their eyes above their masks.

As our only annual fundraiser since our 2019 market, the 2021 Gardeners’ Market proceeds will enable us to continue to pursue our signature civic beautification projects. These efforts include planting and maintaining the 23 median planters along the middle of Main Street, our Constitution Garden in front of Saybrook Home, the flower beds at the Old Saybrook Fire House, and the container gardens at Acton Public Library and the police station. During the darker holiday season, we light up Main Street with wreaths and garland on the median lamp posts. Additionally, the proceeds will allow us to offer college scholarships to local students who pursue ecologically related fields of study. Thanks to all of the generous support, our members can do our best to help Old Saybrook look its best this summer and all year long.
