Commitment, Care, Creativity, and Talent

We’ve heard it said that “the best teachers teach from the heart, not from the book.” We’d like to take this moment to show our appreciation for all the teachers and staff at Daniel Hand High School (DHHS) during this Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week for sharing their hearts with our students during this incredible year.

While we recognize that everyone at DHHS consistently works hard to help students do their best and learn, the past 14 months have shown the extraordinary commitment, care, creativity, and talent among DHHS teachers, administrators, and staff.

While full remote learning was a whole new challenge last year, this year brought yet another challenge in the form of hybrid learning. DHHS teachers rose to the occasion yet again, learning along with the students about how to best present and interact with their curriculum in this new format. While expectations for courses have remained unchanged, so much about teaching is very different. On top of these changes, the emotional wellbeing of the students became paramount as many of the pieces of high school—time with friends that balances out the academic pressure—were absent for a significant portion of this school year. Recognizing this added stress, DHHS teachers agreed to prioritize caring for the kids by adjusting the class schedule to incorporate Wellness Wednesdays, knowing that more time for kids to connect was more important than a few more instructional minutes.

The daily presence, support, and outreach by everyone at DHHS cannot be undervalued. We are so fortunate to have this team of people alongside our children. During this Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week, we highlight our gratefulness for everything every DHHS teacher, administrator, support staff, and everyone in the building with our kids has done.
