Another Big Success

Thanks go to all the amazing residents and businesses of Old Saybrook and the Connecticut shoreline and beyond who made this year’s Shoreline Fire Department Food Drive on April 24 a fantastic ninth annual Food Drive for the Shoreline Soup Kitchens & Pantries (SSKP). The Old Saybrook Fire Department 9OSFD)alone collected a record more than 3,900 pounds of much-needed non-perishable food during the food drive—and the OSFD also received record cash donations of $1,600 to directly benefit SSKP.

Thanks go to volunteers OSFD firefighters (Ron Selines, Richard Mulvihill, Sr., Bruce Watford with his wife Theresa and Junior Firefighter Dempsey, Chaplain Geoff Sinibaldo, Brian Toolan with his children Sam and Anna, Firefighter Matt Colwell’s wife Erin and daughter Emily, my wife Nadine ‘Deanie’, and Fire Police Officer Richard Scierka and his son Jack.

A big thank you also goes to the Harbor News; Lee Elci of 94.9 News Now; The Pete Mezzetti Show; special volunteer Chief Meteorologist Gil Simmons of NEWS8 WTNH, WLNG 92.1 FM LI, Shawn Murphy, SoftRock WBMW 106.5 FM, and Jim Reed, K-Hits 100.9 FM.

And finally, the department thanks the following organizations for the generous donations: Stop & Shop, Big Y, and Staples in Old Saybrook; Mirsina’s in Old Saybrook for the delicious lunch for the grateful volunteers at the OSFD; and Parthenon Diner in Old Saybrook and Scotch Plains Tavern in Essex, for providing a food drop-off location.

From the bottom of my heart, I thank everyone! Their extreme generosity once again made this year’s Shoreline Fire Department Food Drive another big success for SSKP and the many individuals that they help each day,
