A Once-in-a-Lifetime Human Being

Jack Davis had a full life of love and achievement, and his passing is still deeply sad. Thirty years ago or more he called me, whom he did not know, and after a few months we and others created Madison Cultural Arts (MCA), which allows each summer’s Concert on the Green to happen. Then MCA helped him find a way for Madison Cinema to come about. Then The Madison Sculpture Mile. Then making places for music, art, conversation, and life in any number of buildings. Jack’s unending support for the annual Concert on the Green was a tiny part of his endless generosity.

All for the common good, all for our common future.

Achievements might be how we measure those we do not know, but for those whom we love, we know more in our measure. The love for Jack Davis may have something to do with his great good works, but we loved Jack because we knew he loved us, all of us. Jack Davis is a once-in-a-lifetime human being, a polymath, empath, and embodying an overwhelmingly generosity of spirit—a great human being.

I encourage your readers to remember him, and his family, this week.
