Commitment to Equity

I’m writing in support of the 2021-’22 budget being considered by town referendum on Tuesday, April 20, and in particular the funding requests put forth by the Board of Education.

Our public school teachers, students, administration, and families have just weathered a stressful, costly and disrupted school year. This year’s lean education budget proposal is one that acknowledges the hardship many families have faced this year while maintaining the high standards we have for our school system. This budget also represents smart investments in programs and positions that will support our students as our community emerges from this pandemic, including an equity officer and additional social worker position.

I applaud our Board of Education in making these positions, and the investment in a teacher residency program, priorities in their budget, reflecting their commitment to equity within our public school system.
