03/10/2021 07:00 AMKudos to Old Saybrook First Selectman Carl Fortuna, Jr., for providing the leadership and oversight to consistently deliver town budgets that have been flat, or close to flat, over the last decade. The proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2021-’22 is projected to lower the town’s mill rate and tax burden while still fully funding our town’s needs.
Over the last 10 years, Mr. Fortuna has demonstrated an ability to set the right fiscal priorities and appropriately allocate resources to accomplish long-term goals. This was accomplished by instituting best practices and operating efficiencies through the introduction of automation and technology wherever possible.
With so many of our fellow citizens negatively impacted by this pandemic, it’s more important than ever that we continue to watch how our dollars are spent. I applaud the smart budget decisions Old Saybrook has made to live within its means and make the best use of taxpayers’ hard-earned money.
Clearly Old Saybrook is a wonderful town by design—not chance.
