It Is All Right

Living on the Connecticut shore was always a dream for my husband and me. The extremely low mill rate (recently reported to be even lower in the proposed 2021-’22 budget—a tax cut!) and beach communities attracted us to move from another Connecticut town and purchase our forever home in Old Saybrook. We have been living here full time for two years and we could not be happier.

There is so much to do and see in Old Saybrook with its unique small businesses, exquisite places to dine, and history to explore. It gives us a sense of pride to see the town come together for parades, chili fests, snowman-building contests, and summer concerts. The school district is highly rated. When not on the beach, we can play mini golf, 9-hole golf, hike, or take in a show at The Kate. Streets are filled with friendly walkers and runners, many alongside their four-legged friends, and they’re quick with a wave hello.

The Town of Old Saybrook helps its residents in time of need. We are most pleased with the town’s response with face mask distribution and its precisely orchestrated testing and vaccination sites. Residents are kept informed with timely updates from the Emergency Operations Center. Old Saybrook Cares has been established to help residents affected by COVID-19. Additionally, the recovery Center set up after Tropical Storm Isaias was life changing for those of us without power.

Tourists come to visit what we experience all year round, especially our scenic Route 154 with its oceanfront scenery, lighthouses, and shore birds. We are fortunate because it is all right in our own backyard. We wake each day feeling as though we are on vacation in our little piece of heaven. Our dream came true in Old Saybrook.
