Smiles and a Warm Heart

The generosity of the Guilford community never ceases to amaze me. My husband and I had the opportunity to help organize the delivery of Meals on Wheels for Christmas Day. Upon our arrival at the distribution area at the VFW, we realized most of the prep work had already been done due to the hard work and dedication of Christi Burton (director of Guilford Interfaith Volunteers and Meals on Wheels) and her family. Our job was to place the prepared meals in over 100 beautifully hand decorated bags provided by the Bovee family and which were also filled with extra items donated by many individuals and businesses.

Many thanks go to the Ethan Miller Song Foundation, which provided extra bags of gifts and activities for the seniors; Big Y and Stop & Shop for donating fruit; Guilford Lakes and Cox elementary schools for providing hand made holiday cards; the Guilford White House Florist, which donated 100 roses; Jean Hill and Cynthia Pullman for knitting special blankets and potholders; and other individuals who donated additional items such as socks, gloves, ornaments, etc. Page’s Hardware’s involvement in “adopt a senior” program to benefit Meals on Wheels was greatly appreciated.

These meals would not be possible without the dedicated kitchen staff at the community center who prepared more than 100 meals. A final thanks goes to all the drivers who came out on a rainy Christmas Day to deliver meals. We returned home with smiles on our faces and a warm heart thinking about our generous community.
