An Exciting Achievement

So many are deserving of our most sincere gratitude for the ongoing support shown the Scranton Library Friends (SLF) through our time of transition. SLF says “thank you” to all of you who donated, worked, shopped, and helped during the past two years, with a special “thank you” going to Jerry Davis of Davis Realty.

When SLF needed a temporary location, Jerry Davis offered us the use of the 114 Bradley Road cottage, a place to receive, sort, and sell donated books. The offer was $1 per month for rent; we’d cover the utilities. SLF occupied the cottage from October 2018 until October 2020, longer than the originally planned seven months. While in our temporary location and through the support of many, SLF held seven successful sales (in spite of COVID, which canceled two sales), and earned more than $22,000, all of which has been donated to the Scranton Library

Now we’ve moved into our new office space within the Scranton Library. Just outside our office door, we have several shelves of books for sale on the honor system. In addition, large book sales will be planned throughout the year. Watch for the dates and times.

SLF was founded in 1971 and will be 50 years old next year in 2021. This is an exciting achievement, and a significant age. This community spirit in Madison and that of the shoreline has nurtured us and kept us going. We couldn’t have survived and enjoyed this period of transition or achieved the golden age of 50 without the amazing support of our wonderful community and Davis Realty.

As it was before our two-year temporary location, donations can be left at 24/26 Wall Street, where a cabinet is ready to receive them. Donors can bring us their gently used books, CDs, DVDs, and children’s books.
