In Our Best Interest

I write in strong support of two outstanding state legislators: State Senator Christine Cohen (D-12) and State Representative Sean Scanlon (D-98). It is our great fortune to have them representing Guilford, and in our best interest to re-elect them on Nov. 3.

I have watched with great appreciation and admiration the passion Christine Cohen has brought to the state Senate and the diligence with which she approaches issues that matter to her constituents. She is thorough in her consideration of problems and solutions, seeking input from a broad range of stakeholders. She successfully pursues collaboration across party lines, demonstrated in her creation of the bipartisan Coastal Caucus and her work to pass clean energy legislation. She has focused tremendous effort on environment protection, advocated for healthcare access for individuals with pre-existing conditions, supported gun safety laws including Ethan’s Law, and used her significant business experience to support small businesses. Her daily communications throughout the COVID-19 pandemic have kept us well-informed.

Sean Scanlon has effectively served our 98th District for six years with dedication and skill. The extraordinary effort he has invested getting to know his constituents and addressing their concerns is reflected in the tremendous respect he has earned throughout the district. He has successfully taken on a leading public health issue with legislation tackling the opioid crisis, and as House chair of the Insurance and Real Estate Committee has advocated for numerous healthcare and insurance protections for consumers. He, too, has been a strong advocate for Ethan’s Law and other gun safety laws. And his consistent and successful advocacy in Hartford has saved our town from substantial municipal funding cuts in multiple years.
