Championed the Environment

In her first term, State Representative Christine Palm (D-36) has championed the environment in her proactive legislation. Most notable, she introduced and won adoption of a bill to ensure that students from all across the state have access to critical climate education. She has been endorsed by The Connecticut League of Conservation Voters (CTLCV), the Sierra Club, and the Sunrise Movement. Palm was named a 2019 Environmental Champion by CTLCV for successfully introducing and moving two environmental bills through one chamber of the General Assembly.

Representative Palm said, “Being endorsed by these three renowned groups is very important to me. Environmental activism has been a lifelong passion and is now a hallmark of my legislative agenda.” As a member of the Environment Committee, she has been an ardent protector of the Connecticut River, marshes, and wildlife. She supported protection of the river and wetlands by requiring stamps on boats about invasive species, investments in wind energy production, the creation of green manufacturing jobs to benefit the state economy, and the ban on plastic bags. She promoted ecotourism in our local communities and such projects as rails to trails.

Representative Palm’s activism as a legislator in the General Assembly in just two short years is simply amazing, introducing 22 bills on such areas as children’s safety, aid to terminally ill patients, protection of women’s medical rights, employee freedom of speech, legal counsel for children in immigration removal, and environmental bills on harmful substances, natural resource protection, and climate change.

We need to re-elect Christine Palm for District 36 and for the State of Connecticut to continue her good work. Just think what she can do in two more years.
