21st-Century Solutions

There are numerous lessons to be learned from the COVID crisis. One is that 20th-century legislative Band-Aids that kick the can down the road instead of solving our 21st-century problems have only made our problems worse. At the state level, we note the inability to fully fund pensions or alternatively to adjust pension costs to match actual revenue generation. In Madison, we postponed maintenance of our school buildings so long that a mind-boggling $150 million plan is the proposed solution. Economic development proposals generate more expense than revenue.

In Madison and Connecticut, we desperately need 21st-century solutions to decades of kick-the-can-down-the-road legislation. In our more thoughtful moments, we know we need new concepts, ideas, and solutions from 21st-century thinkers, candidates who are smart, open-minded, and not afraid of change; candidates who can design and implement real solutions so that their children won’t have to watch the same old problems quadruple by 2040.

That’s why I’m supporting John-Michael Parker to represent Madison and Durham in Connecticut’s legislature. He’s smart (he’s a Daniel Hand High School valedictorian and Yale graduate), experienced (he’s worked as a teacher/educator and budget-conscious non-profit executive for a multi-million-dollar revenue-generating fundraiser), and a community volunteer.

John-Michael understands the needs, hopes, and dreams of Madison’s children, young adults, and prime-of-life and older residents. He hears the pleas of those now sadly unemployed as well as the words of those still living comfortably and those whose portfolios bulge with shares of Amazon, Apple, and Google, because he really listens and has a remarkable ability to relate to them all.

We can build a better future starting right here in Madison by electing a candidate we raised right here in Madison to be our future: John-Michael Parker

I encourage your readers to embrace the future and vote for John Michael Parker.
