Don’t Rejoice Too Loudly

Just writing to thank you for your responsible journalistic non-sensational headline on the firearm buy back in the Oct. 1 paper [“Almost 200 Weapons Turned In”].

My objection is to your referring to firearms as “weapons.” Under that classification, people should turn in granny’s knitting needles and their ball peen hammers and chain saws, etc.

Firearms are only weapons when a person uses them as such. And even then, they might be using them for self-defense.

In addition to that, don’t rejoice too loudly that all these firearms were turned in. They aren’t the ones you have to worry about and never were!
